I enjoyed reading this book about Dr. Doug Owsley. The book reads as a biography of Dr. Owsley who I think is truly an amazing and gifted man.He is the top Smithsonian Forensic Scientist and has been on every kind of case you can think of from identifying 9/11 victims to researching the world's oldest remains. The book will let you follow a few of the amazing cases he has been apart of.A large part of this book will follow the court case surrounding Kennewick Man that Dr Owsley was a main part of that took many years in the legal system and many years of Dr. Owsley's life for the right to study america's oldest and most complete skeleton.
I loved this book and I am a bit heartbroken that it is over. The author wrote about the Queen's everyday life in a way that I felt I was part of it all.The book is written in favor of the Queen and with respect for all that she has done in her duty as the Queen in all her many years on the throne. It truly is amazing all the years she has been in power and all the many things she has had to face.I found the book full of information on all the daily tasks the Queen undertakes yet still it was never boring for me.The author filled the book with many wonderful little stories and quotes from the Queen and the people that surround her that it helped keep the book from becoming a stuffy read.I am truly in awe of everything the Queen does at her age.I loved how the author made the Queen more human for me by letting you know how people's attitudes and ideas of the Queen changed after meeting her such as each prime minister.I loved how she would put people at ease in different ways many times with humor.I was surprised a bit by the way the author wrote about Dianna just because you never really hear unflattering things said about her.The things said were not harsh in any means just unusual for me because in a way Dianna has become untouchable since her death.I respect the Queen and Dianna both for many of the same things. Both women are remarkable women of their time that can never be replaced.I have a much deeper respect for the Queen after reading this book and wish the Queen many more years on the throne.

I enjoyed reading this book it was a guilty pleasure. This book I would call an adult R rated version of Gossip girl set in Hollywood recast with the Tudors.I love Tudor history, and Gossip girl so this book was a great book for me.The author I think wrote a story that was interesting using public figures from the past but setting them in world of today's Hollywood where people are famous for being seen with the right people or for just being rich.In a lot of ways I don't think times have changed all that much.People who have power and money are surrounded by friends that all want something from them. Henry and Anne were no different in that fact be it the England of the past or the Hollywood from today.
This book was a wonderful and sad book of what happened to Hawaii's last Queen and her nation. For me being an american I am ashamed of what happened to the peaceful people. The book starts out with Captian Cooks landing and ends with Hawaii becoming a state. There are so many things that happened in between. This author did a great job researching every thing she could get hands on.This book sheds light on a part of the history of america that I was never taught in school and I can see why I wasn't it was not one of our more shinning moments.Hawaii was pure in a way that was unlike any where else in the world at that time. Then people saw they could make millions from sugar and that's what they did reguardless of the natives wellfare history or ownership of the land.I couldn't help but think of the Native American Indians in the United States. This book was so well researched the author was able to read personal letters of the queens and others from the time. You get to feel like your there with the poor queen hoping that she will get back what is rightful hers but alas it wasn't to be.

I would read more books written by this author in a heartbeat.
I received this book as part of the first-reads program from goodreads. This book tells the story of two remarkable women that were sisters who became the queen of England and the queen of Castile. The book covers more of Katherine of Aragon than it does Juana of Castile.Juana of Castile doesn't have as many historical records and accounts left for us today as Katherine does so I found that to not be the fault of the author. This book was well researched by the author and written more in the manner of a historical fiction than a dry history book.I truly loved this book and have read many books about Henry the VIII and Katherine of Aragon yet this writer still taught me a thing or two.I loved reading the parts about Katherine's wedding to Authur because the author painted a very vivid account of the grand scale of what was involved and who was present to the clothes they were wearing and the cost involved.Katherine and Juana came from an amazing and powerful family and in this book you get to learn about them as well. This book is not just about the sisters themselves but about the most powerful men and women ruling Europe during the time.I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves history, royals,or historical fiction.I have to say Julia Fox did an amazing job with this book and I look forward to reading more from this author.I give it 5 starts for the ease of reading and the research that went into this wonderful book.
I won this book from goodreads first reads program. This was a wonderful engrossing read for me.The story for me is about so many things friendship, sisterhood, family, love, loss, mystery. This book was a wonderful mix of historical fiction mixed with the modern day.I don't want to give away spoilers for the book so I will try my best. The book reminded me a bit of gothic mystery novels I have read mixed with a mystery romance novel.I loved this book very much and couldn't wait for Jude to find the next clue from the past.I highly recommend the book and I plan on reading more from this author for sure.My feelings after reading the book are a bit sad because the story is over I wish there was more.
One of favorite books of all time. While reading this story your heart breaks for the phantom. You feel his pain and anguish as the story unfolds. He does terrible things, yet somehow the author still makes you fell sorrow for the phantom. The story for me is about what we all want just to be loved for yourself. If your are a fan of the play or just a reader this is a book not to be missed.
This was another great read written by a new favorite author of mine. This book is about Gengis Khan growing up until just the begining of his power.I loved this book! It is historical fiction but well researched by the author.Get ready for lots of action, battles, and double crossing. One of my favorite things about this author is he writes authors notes at the end to tell you what he changed and why. This is book one of the series and I am proud to say I own them all.
I liked amanda's book alot it was a joy to read.I will be buying the other 2 in the trylle collection for sure.I read the book in one sitting I really couldn't put it down.I liked how the writer switched the normal expected ya romance idea nowadays I.E. vampires to something unexpected trolls. Not that I don't enjoy those a well.In this book you get a little bit of everthing trolls, magic, royalty, high school, angsty teenagers,to the the debate of is blood thicker than water. The writer has made a wonderful book and already has quite a fanbase.I also saw in my advance readers copy of the book that they are working on a movie for the book series.I will be looking out for the movie as well. The first book switched comes out 1/24/12. I really enjoyed this book alot. I have even told a few fellow readers who like twilight check it out.If you like fantasy books like twilight this one is not to be missed.
Overall I liked this book.It will keep you guessing as to who the serial killer is the writer would hint but never let you in on who it was till the end as it should be in a good murder mystery book. The hairdresser that the killer becomes facinated by was quite a scarcastic woman she has alot of spunk and I liked her alot. The writer let you hear all the evil things she wanted to do to her customers that were a pain. Some of my favorite parts of the book made me laugh by the thoughts she was having.Who hasnt had a bad day at work and wanted to kill a customer or two yet you were stuck with your customer friendly smile plastered on your face. The serial killer parts were not too in depth or graphic yet you still get the idea of the evil thats going on.The ending I might have changed a bit I think I wanted to know a bit more about what happened after or maybe thats just me wanting the book not to be over yet.In all I enjoyed the book and was glad I read it.
I loved this book! I found myself wondering many things about this author and would love to spend a day just chatting with him.The book is a collection of different adventures or treasure hunts that w.c. jameson was kind enough to share with us.This is a man that has many secrets and stories that for many years he kept to himself. In this book you get the honor to get a peek at what his life was and still is to this day.W.C. Jameson has researched and found many treasures that no one has laid eyes on since they were hidden or forgotten about.I found myself questioning if I could do any of the things W.C. and his partners did and the answer was always no.The hardships these men had to face would defeat most men and women, but not these four determinded and almost fearless men.W.C. Jameson lets you get just a taste of where the treasure is because alot of it is still there waiting to be claimed. The things these men have seen most people never will. The history these men have held in thier hands is priceless. What it must be like to be the first person to touch artifacts no one has touched in hundreds of years. While reading this book I found myself asking question after question. Why did they do it? Was it the money? Was it the challenge? Or was it something else? You must decide for yourself why they did it, but for me I think they did it because they were the men that could.I cant wait untill I get more of W.C. Jameson's books.I am not ready for the adventure to be over!
The Seventeenth Pocket by Hargus Montgomery

This book is hard to describe where do I start...when you die is there more out there or are you just gone? What if you could still talk to the love ones you lost? What if the parts of your brain you don’t use are the key to doing that? What if all the doctors and powerful people in the world were trying to break that code first for the power and money that would come with that knowledge? What happens if the code is broken? Now that being said the book isn’t written in a dark way its more sci-fi young adult fiction if I had to try and class it.I think this book it great for lots of age groups. Some how this writer doesn’t make you feel like the story is over when someone passes its only the begining. There is so much to this story traveling to other worlds, good vs evil,so many things I don’t want to spoil it for you so I will leave it at that.If you would like to try a book thats a bit different and you dont know where you will end up next in a good way I say give this book a shot for sure.I loved this book and I look forward to what this writer has to offer next.
I loved this book so much I had to get all of Conn Iggulden's books on the Khan series and the books on Rome. This book was wonderful full of action, battle plans, hard choices and trickery.Conn Iggulden has done a wonderful job of making the mongols live for me.I loved how alive these men and women became for me while reading this book. I couldn't put this book down. While reading this book it was like being there in a way just so vivid.I highly recommend reading this book if you are a fan of historical fiction. This author has truly made a fan out of me with one book.I can't wait to read all of the other books Conn Iggulden has written.
I really enjoyed this book and I think patricia cornwell did a great job with her argument on who she thinks jack the ripper was.I am not sure who I think jack was I don't think we will ever know. One of the things I liked most about this account of the mystery behind jack the ripper was patricia cornwell was able to have special access to things from the case that are not readily available to the public.Patricia cornwell also has a great fiction series that I love scarpetta.I highly recommend her if you are into fictional crime mysteries that don't shy away from the gruesome details.

I just finished reading this short story by Joshua P. Simon. He is a writer I found on librarything that was kind enough to gift me a free copy of this book. That being said ..I enjoyed the story alot. This Book is what it says a short story.I hate spoilers so I am trying really hard not to give any in my review.I liked the main character after the first few pages and really felt for Tobin and his struggles. The book has Tobin torn with many feelings about his family and doing his best so he will be the warleader. If Tobin wins in his quest it will be better for his people and others thats for sure. But my fellow readers I am not going to tell you if he does you need to read it for yourself and I would suggest that you do.One more note I would like to make dont worry about it being a short story this is part of a series so be ready to want more.I would read the rest in this series.
amy2011http://www.blogger.com/profile/02906254608128068084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099881193315340455.post-7328000905389934952011-11-12T20:46:00.001-08:002011-11-13T01:07:42.302-08:00A Little Magic by Valerie Gillen review

A Little Magic by Valerie Gillen

I really enjoyed this book! I couldn't put this book down one night I even caught myself reading it at 6am with one eye open.I think the writer put an interesting story together out of lets say rumors from the past. For myself I dont care if she of mixed ethnic origins or not.I personaly think most of us are in the end.The author gave life to a great bunch of people that surrounded the queen at the time.I even found myself laughing at some of the comments made by them.Only thing I think I would change is I would have liked a little more of the queens views on how she felt about the things going on and about being different with her unusual looks.I would love the author to write more on her after she became the queen.Fingers crossed for another book mulatto queen the later years.Well a girl can hope lol

This is the first book I have read by kelvin o'ralph. It was a little hard for me to get into at first. When stephen first came to his new house I got a little bored with all the expensive new things that had been given to him.I wanted to know more about him, why he was there, why they were giving him all the expensive gifts.I think I wanted a little bit more back story on stephen. That being said once he met lisa and they shared what they were both going through it got much better for me.I dont want to give anything away that happens later in the story.I will read the next in the series because once the story started going I found that I did enjoy it quite a bit.I think the writer over all did a GOOD JOB! I look forward to seeing what else this writer has to offer in the future.
p.s after my review of his book I am proud to say I can call this author my friend. We have pizza ,wings, pop, and cheese bread on the way.I love ufc and I am very excited about the main fight tonight.I have liked ufc for a long time even before it went main stream.I have always been a tomboy you could say.I love it! I am married to a fighter as well he has a 3rd degree black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu. The being married to a fighter thing gets me in trouble sometimes when I forget and jump on his back being silly then Amy can fly lol.He never hurts me but does remind me what I am messing with lol.I plan on trying to finish another book tonight.I have been getting a little backed up and falling behind.I have about twenty to review acck what have I got myself into lol.Nah really it will be fine I read really fast so no worries.I am just having a hard time deciding what to read first so I keep jumping back and forth.I sometimes read 5 books at a time so not much different there with me.I like to read my history books and some of my easier fiction novels to lighten the mood a little.I end up with about 5 at a time that way.I am reading most of my books on my computer right now because of all my books that are kindle or epub format.I kind of like reading them that way but I prefer holding the books and being abe to smell them lol. Well ufc has started and it should be good.amy2011http://www.blogger.com/profile/02906254608128068084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099881193315340455.post-13339214937182977752011-11-12T15:22:00.000-08:002011-11-12T15:22:41.844-08:00And so it starts...I have decided to make a blog because I am reading a ton of books and writing reviews on them.I wanted to also have a place to write out all my random thoughts on what I am reading and all the nice people I have met from librarything or anything I felt like blabbing endlessly about.I am currently driving my poor husband crazy talking about books.Librarything is my new addiction oh how I love that site.I spend way too much time on there but it makes me happy so who cares.I also get to read books till my hearts content and that always makes me a happy girl.amy2011http://www.blogger.com/profile/02906254608128068084noreply@blogger.com0
